Leg 18 begins today

Leg 18 is underway: the overnight train from Hanoi to Hue, Vietnam, a journey of about 12 hours.

Hanoi main station is the easiest station to navigate to date. Clerks and ticket checkers know some English, but it doesn't matter much as there's just 1 track. Waiting room is small but tidy. Seems like this train contains more non-Asian passengers than other trains in Asia.

Traveler trick: Vietnamese trains don't have private 2-bed sleepers. In order to get a private sleeper, you have to buy all 4 tickets for a 4-bed sleeper. Tickets cost about $40. Do the math...by the way, trains board here about 45 minutes prior to departure.

As of today, we have 1 month to go before connecting up with our return journey home.
