Leg 4 review

Transportation part of leg 4 is complete and we have begun our stay in the Faroe Islands.

2 part transport:

a. 10 mile train ride from Hjorring to Hirtshals, Denmark; and
b. 655 miles by ferry from Hirtshals to Torshavn, Faroe Islands.

665 miles on that leg, now 5665 miles in total traveled.

While here on the Faroes, we'll be staying in Torshavn for a few days, and then Gjogv for a few days before moving on to Iceland.

Leg 4 transport highlights:

--train transport was very simple: no need to buy tickets in advance as they are readily available at the 7-11 in the Hjorring station, train leaves once an hour;
--upon arrival in Hirtshals, if you are taking Color Line ferry to Norway, a pedestrian bridge from the train station runs straight to the ferry terminal...for Smyril Line to Faroes/Iceland, a bus sits outside the train station across from the grocery store...don't attempt to walk it;
--Smyril Line m/f Norrona is an efficiently run and clean ferry, left on time and arrived on time;
--ferry was only 20% full but was booked with roving packs of 5 to 8 teenagers, each with a leader it seemed, either returning home from summer work in Denmark or a sports team...guy from Canada we talked to said the whole group stayed down in the lowest decks and made it impossible to sleep, sounds like fun!;
--last night of the journey we ate dried fish (they called it stock fish, seemed like it was herring), and whale blubber (chewy but sorta similar to fatty tuna)...picture below;
--Faroese beer served on board was pretty good, so was the Fisk liquor from Denmark;
--every ship we've been on so far included a high stakes bingo game...do not stand near the door when the game starts as you will be run over by a rabid gang of seniors!;
--journey was smooth until the last night when we encountered the remnants of a hurricane and it was quite bumpy--no problem, slept through much of it;
--arrival was at 5 AM in Torshavn, right on time!

Fascinating stuff. I have 2 requests/suggestions: 1. Less arms akimbo in poses. 2. Can you bring me home a set of umlauts?

I have a bum shoulder thanks to table tennis, gimme a break! Plus, it is impossible to type all those crazy unusual letters. We have learned to speak both Faroese and Icelandic. Simply add an extra 'r' wherever one appears in any English word. Then make up a crazy squiggle letter and insert it anywhere you want (don't worry, they are silent). Then, pronounce the word backwards. You now speak one of those languages.
