Leg 2 complete and random QM2 observations

Leg 2 complete: Queen Mary 2 Atlantic crossing from New York City to Southampton UK, and a short bus ride to London: about 3192 miles.

Total miles traveled to date: about 4151 miles

Couple random observations about QM2:

1. food was plentiful, with a good variety of fruit and veggies;

2. gym is really weird to use as you sense every roll of the ship when on the treadmill;

3. real old school British vibe to just about everything...we often felt like Jake and Elwood Blues while in the dining rooms;

4. saw someone wearing a monocle;

5. the ship employs walkers, otherwise known as gentleman callers, whose job is to dance and socialize with widowed socialites;

6. service was generally good, takes a day to figure out where everything is at on board; departure was a bit slow, but the ship arranged bus transfer to London which dropped off just a few miles from our hotel and was reasonably priced;

7. ESPN mysteriously disappeared from the TV after day 1 and returned on day 6;

8. while traversing the Atlantic, you are surrounded by a neptune-scape with really no features other than waves, some clouds, a bit of fog, and maybe a passing ship;

9. Atlantic was calm for the entire cruise with just a slight roll now and then...we arrived to Southampton right on time; and

10. lectures are kinda corny but when you have to fill 17 waking hours, you'll look past the fact that the astronomy lecturer merely has an honorary degree and the ambassador who spoke on world affairs basically read the days WSJ and NYT and daily wore the same 1960s era Nehru jacket leisure suit with an ascot.

More photos to follow...onward!
